Blip Blog II - Mana & Magics
Since the creation of Minecraftia, magic has been very heavy in the air, affecting everything from the evolution of the denizens, to how people persist after death. Nearly no other planet exists in this universe the way Minecraftia does, and it pays off in the unique way the magic system works.
Nature
Most creatures in Minecraftia work off of the mana that surrounds them, not requiring them to eat or drink as much as normal creatures would, and allowing them to slumber for longer. While this allows for passive mobs to exist, it also creates the opportunity for hostile monsters to roam about, not needing food or drink, only to be able to feed off of the passive creatures that roam at night.
Some hostile mobs only feast off of magic, and hibernate for long periods of time, like slimes, who only come out to feast rarely, unless someone stumbles upon their cave underground where they slumber.
In corc, it changes significantly, due to their drought of any magics, slimes are more aggressive, mobs are almost non-existent, due to the lack of food, and passive mobs have to be kept on farms or they die of starvation. People are unable to cast much magic in the territory of Corc, unless in rare senarios where they're attuned to a specific god, in which case they could cast off the gods mana pool.
Outside of corc, however, magic is not only very frequent, but its encouraged to use. it shows up in one of three schools of magic:
The "Schools" of Magic
Magic in Minecraftia has not much depth, but it can be typically sorted into three categories:
- Death Magic - Magic that is intended to be used to either bring death, harm other people, or drain people, depending on the circumstances. This includes things like traditional fantasy magic, like thunderbolt, firebolt, general offensive spells, but also includes stealth spells, and night vision.
- Life Magic - Magic that is intended to be used to bring life, including persisting life. This includes healing spells, shielding spells, food-related spells, speed related spells, anything that would be considered a defensive or support spell.
- Chaos Magic - Magic that changes the person, but has either dubious intentions, or neutral intentions. This includes things like Transformation spells, size changing spells, disguise spells, teleportation spells, anything that can change the form of the object, is typically done with chaos magic.
Magic Useage
Typically, when someone decides to pick up magic in Minecraftia, they talk to a local mage, or spiritual leader, who would teach them about mana reserves, and how to properly use the natural energy reserves on the body, or in the air around them, and depending on the user, they would be able to store their mana in a few different ways:
- Natural Body Reserves
- Mana Aura
- Mana Crystals
~ Some mages are capable of storing their mana on the reserves of their body, which allows them to not only store mana more efficiently, but it lets them use those reserves in case they are on a long journey, to eat less. This is common in nature magic, and among the creatures of Minecraftia, who use very passive magics.
~ Most battle mages use this method of mana storage, due to their ability to combine mana pools when on the battleground, resulting in larger, more devastating spells. These mages store their mana in the air around them, causing their presence to be heavier and more intimidating, especially due to the fact that they could hold more mana than other methods. All of the gods use this method in order to store incomprehensible amounts of mana around them in almost nauseating auras.
~ Some mages use various different kinds of crystals to store their mana, wether its in their staff, or on their neck in a necklace, or some mages have the crystals implanted into their body to charge it to, so that they could conceal their mana easier. This type of mana storage is also better for long-term mana storage, due to many different crystals' potency towards life spells, which would allow people to modify the gem to magically hold more mana.
