Blip Blog III - Hallowdays & Festivities
In Minecraftia, hallowdays are practiced in all cultures, wether that is through the centralized religion of the Dídeans in Corc, or the paganistic religions of Elesium and its many territories, cultural practices have existed in the world of Minecraftia for millenia, and continue to influence the way people experience the flow of time throughout each year.
Each major holiday corresponds to the gods that influenced them at each point. Practicing them was a key part of the balance of the world, due to each god having their own influence over the world in the first place. The three major Hallowdays are as follows:
- 1- Halloween This holiday is not much unlike the Halloween we see in our real world, bar a few exceptions. Most people spend the hollowday dressing in disguises, carving faces into pumpkins, much like we know today, but when the holiday is over, many find themselves intentionally leaving the pumpkins out to rot, in order to signify the cycle of life and death. Some others bury their deads ashes on Halloween, to pay homage to Aneajus, and to hope their soul carries on into the End.
- 2- Yule / Equinox This holiday is celebrated during the Winter Equinox, and is typically dedicated to the God of the Nether, Godith. Most people celebrate this hallowday in order to hope for the God of the nether to bring his warmth and the warmth of his realm to the overworld, essentially sending away the cold. While these wishes are almost never fulfilled, they do bring hope that Winter is at its end, and Springtime is fast approaching, due to the equinox. This celebration is, same with the type of celebration you would see on Earth, centered around feasts, warmth, and signified by the evergreens of the tiaga biomes.
- 3- Austron This holiday is typically celebrated similarly around all of Minecraftia, being a staple for most people in the Overworld. This holiday is characterised by the coming of spring, so many different early spring flowers are adorned on the tables, and a lot of animal products are used, due to their build-up during the winter months after Yule, and the abundaance of new resources as spring opens up. Many farmers use this holiday to celebrate and have a grand feast prior to a day of planting and farming on the day after, so they dedicate their celebrations to G'reth, in hopes they receive a blessing of a good harvest.
In corc, its very similar to our current halloween that you would find on Earth, where decorations are put up for one day, but it was never given any religious significance in the Church of the Holy Flame, so devout followers will avoid following it, claiming that its an "unholy practice". Thankfully, most people dont think that way.
In Corc, these celebrations are typically less-focused on Godith, and more centered around the feasts and the equinox, and the coming of busy months for farmers. This is usually when people would use most of their long-kept food for celebration.
Many people in Corc still celebrate Austron as originally intended.
Many times, people will find themselves celebrating smaller local hallowdays, around foundings of their town, or generally agreed-upon dates, like the turn of the year (typically celebrated in early springtme), or for the Dídeans, the founding of Corc, and the discovery of the Vault, typically being celbrated both around the end of summertime. Most of these celebrations are brought together with general fare, with feast, and music.
