Blip Blog IV - Ship Design

Throughout my time working on Corc, Valleytown and other areas, I've gone through a lot of different kinds of ships, both land-to-air, and space ships. This has lead to me thinking about larger motherships, maybe carrier ships, that would loom over nearby planets and cities, and even further, thinking about how those ships would be designed if they were part of Corc, especially considering most corc ships are designed after bugs, would this potential mothership be made like a hive? or would it be like a larger bug? there is a lot to consider with the way these ships work, and considering that I didn't want to go out of my way to design a lumpy ball for a ship, maybe it could use the honeycomb-esque design that persists in hives to its advantage?

The first hurdle of this project was to see what the purpose of this "hive ship" would be. So that begs the question - what WOULD corc need a giant ship for?

I had thought of this for a bit, but I knew that if Corc were to develop a hive ship that could house other ships, it would probably reflect more as a building than an actual bug, especially considering the fact that the first line of vults in the Dynasty were built like old towers, I think that implementing those ideas would prove to fit both aesthetically, AND thematically

But going back to the purpose question, they would definitely use a big hive ship for the function of a mobile military base, as a means of enacting militaristic overview on the entire planet, crushing any form of rebellion that stands in their way.

... fuck that's just star wars isnt it.

It'd also be a good place to house a growing military, just on a planetary scale at least. Worst case senario, they lay waste to every single opposing territory using tnt and lava.

Getting back on track, though, a mobile military base would definitely benefit from having ranged weapons, but up until this point, we havent gotten any big ranged weapons that werent bows or crossbows, so how would we design a rangd weapon that isn't complete magic?

From mechanics, of course! [picture here]

We know that, at least in minecraftia, the only way to propel things a distance is through:

  • knockback enchanted weapons (not good)
  • TNT (VERY good)
  • bubble elevators (VERY bad)
  • collision mechanics (VERY VERY GOOD)
  • So that begs the question, should we have a ship that has TNT cannons on it? or send TNT minecarts through a rail-gun esque design with collision mechanics?

    Why not both?

The reasoning behind going with a more sci-fi esque design is not only recognizeability, but also to combine the features of the tnt cannon, and the railgun together. This allows the railgun to look like its expected to, but also be recognizeable as a tnt cannon, to an extent.
